SHREWSBURY FORUM
We held our Christmas meeting at the beginning of December,
which was attended by approximately 70 people. Our speaker was
Mr. Ian Patterson, a retired Police Officer.
Ian was originally from the North of England and told us about
how he became a Policeman and what the job was like when he
started. He was very interesting an amusing.
During the meeting we had coffee and mince pies also our new
Shrewsbury Forum Leaflet was launched. We even managed to get
the press there.
The leaflet, produced by one of our committee ;members, Mrs.
Mary de Saulles, will be distributed throughout the Shrewsbury
area. The leaflet promotes the Shrewsbury Forum and hopefully
will inspire people to join the Forum.
Following the meeting 67 people attended our Christmas lunch.
As usual The Barnabas Centre served us with their delightful
Christmas Fare, which was enjoyed by all. This year we were
fortunate enough to receive a grant via Age UK. This enabled us
to give everyone attending the lunch a Christmas gift and to pay
for the speaker etc.
Our next open meeting is on the 16th February when the speaker
will be from Headway Shropshire. This charitable organisation
helps people with an acquired brain injury. An acquired brain
injury can come from a stroke, accident or assault. This talk
should be very interesting as an acquired brain injury could
happen to any one of us. The April open meeting will include a
talk by a representative of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
We look forward to seeing you at the February meeting. The
format of the meetings has changed. The meetings will include a
report from the Committee, an update of the Association and time
to discuss issues concerning you, which the Forum may be able to
help with.
If you have never been to a meeting before, do come along and
see what goes on. Remember meeting now start at 10.30 a.m.
A Happy New Year to you all from the Shrewsbury Forum.
